Tooth Extractions and Space Maintainers
Tooth extractions may be necessary if a tooth is severely damaged or decayed and
cannot be saved, or if a baby tooth is preventing the permanent tooth from erupting
properly. Our experienced dental team uses the latest techniques and tools to provide a
safe and effective extraction. After the extraction, we will provide detailed instructions for
aftercare and follow-up appointments to ensure that your child’s healing process is on
track.
When a baby tooth is extracted long before the replacing adult tooth is ready to grow in,
there is a potential shifting of the neighboring teeth into the space, thereby causing
crowding, misalignment, and other discomforts. To prevent and alleviate these issues, a
space maintainer is fitted to preserve the space until the adult tooth grows in.
