Pulpotomies (Baby Root Canals)
The tooth decay may spread deep into the innermost part of the tooth, otherwise known
as the pulp. The pulp houses the nerve and the blood vessels that supply the tooth.
Tooth decay that spreads near or/and into the pulp causes pain and discomfort.
A pulpotomy is a common dental procedure that involves the removal of the inflamed
(diseased)pulp tissue inside the crown of the tooth, while leaving the healthy pulp tissue
in the root intact.
During a pulpotomy procedure, we use local anesthesia to numb the affected tooth/
teeth, remove the infected tissue and seal the remaining healthy tissue with medicament
to protect and promote healing. A (baby) crown is then placed on the tooth for strength.
